Cuba is not a destination, it’s an experience
Cuba is not like a regular destination. When your taxi drops you off from the airport at your casa particular you realise quickly that there’s something special about this place.
The people, the buildings, the history… Again something is special.
It wasn’t my first experience in a communist country but the first on an island with an embargo for the past 50 years.
As you can imagine, it has left a mark. And this is what you must experience.
Walking around the city where people don’t know what consumerism is but yet, dream about it. You’re constantly reminded of the excess of the western world as you live a life without internet and where toilet paper can be sold on the black market.
Aside from the life conditions and lifestyle, what marked me in Cuba, was the beauty of the architecture. Which shows that once upon a time, Havana and the island was a prosperous place.
